To Discuss The Temporal Spirit Of "Red Film"

In this paper ,we choose the temporal spirit of"Red Film"in 17 years(1949—1966)as the studying subject, and deeply analyze the features of the temporal spirit that"Red Film"presents at ideological content and expressive form in which we point out that the temporal spirit is the base on which"Red Film"successes, and we must be on the base of concrete period to cognize and evaluate"Red Film"objectively and fairly. This is very important to tease Chinese film history of hundred years rightly, and it also has great use for reference to the currently domestic film creation.There are five parts in this paper as follows:The preface is the definition to"Red Film"in which we define"Red Film"from two angles about broad sense and narrow sense, and point out that Chinese"Red Film"in 17 years is the major subject in this paper. Upper sheet: we state the shape problems of"Red Film"and"Red Film"about Chinese film, and trace its developmental history. Chinese first feature film—Die For Marriage(《难夫难妻》) that was made in 1913—which raised the curtain on the"red"of Chinese film. This film criticizes the feudal married—system from bourgeois democracy ideas, which present a little"light red".During the period, the development of"Red Film"includes the red scarcity because of the prevail of commercial film in 1920's, and the burst of red enthusiasm which was in the lead of Left—Wing film movement in 1930's, and the development to"deep red"of critical realism in 1940's. Till the foundation of country in 1949, the film greatly assured the historical task to stand for brand—new national ideology. And the workers,farmers and soldiers appeared and became the leading role on the screen."Red Film"that is referred in this paper came into being formally at that time.Middle Sheet: the Temporal Spirit endows the life to"Red Film". In this part, we reveal the features of the temporal spirit about"Red Film"from two angles about ideological content and expressive form, by discussing the problems of the temporal spirit about"Red Film"in 17 years and combining the analysis with concrete films. At the aspect of ideological content, the film—makers inject the new ideological view into the films, and pay attention to the life, show the life, evaluate the life with highly political enthusiasm. At the aspect of expressive form, they gradually carry out the national pursuit and exert themselves to create the expressional method that is in accordance with Chinese enjoying habit, by drawing lessons from traditional arts and enriching and innovating film language. Through the analysis, we further point out that the temporal spirit is the basic guarantee on which"Red Film"relies to exist. And"Red Film"which made a great success in those 17 years, embodies the temporal feature apparently, at the same time, it is also the typical masterpiece in which red ideology,general public arts and market combine perfectly. It can be said that the temporal spirit makes"Red Film"return to the triple nature in a sense.Last sheet: Discuss the historical influences of"Red Film". The influences include the positive and the negative, which lie in the choice of the successive film—markets. The films, which reflect the Cultural Revolution and are influenced deeply by"Red Film", go toward to the"Red"extremes. And then nearly brings the disaster of being drowned to Chinese films; Otherwise, the fifth generation film—markets healed by Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou handle"Red"elements well and shoot the films including Yellow Earth (《黄土地》) and Red Sorghum(《红高粱》),etc.which have a great influence. In 1990's especially in new century, the film system has great changes which include ideological elements gradually desalt and film—makers add to abundant game elements in the works about"Red Film"themes so as to attract audiences and occupy the market. And this method creatively inherits the style of"Red Film".In the conclusion, we point out that the success of"Red Film"has close relation to dealing with the temporal spirit properly. Currently Chinese films are facing up to the temporal problems. Nowadays film—makers should draw lessons from successive experience of"Red Film", so that the substantial transition from great nation to powerful nation in the film kingdom.
