Kang Baiwan Manor, located in the town of Kangdian, Gongyi City in Henan Province, is one of the three biggest landlord's manors in China. Mangshan Mountain ranges and faced the Yiluo River, the Manor was built in line with traditional construction philosophy of"harmony between man and nature, imitate nature ". The Manor is composed of cave houses against the mountains, buildings along the roads, docks on the riverside and walls built on strategic places, forming a large-scale landlord's manor with an established innate system, all-round functions, a precise layout and a rigid classification. Its scientific value, artistic value, historical value and cultural value of the traditional architect is incomparable with most other folk houses. Besides, the art of its wood carving, tile carving, and stone carving are praised as exotic flowers in the art garden of Central Plain. Gongyi's Kang Baiwan Manor can be regarded as an exhibition of folk houses from Ming and Qing Dynasties, or a miniature of traditional building culture, or a typical representation of the traditional folk houses of central plain area.This paper draws on the design approach and concept through the analysis of the Manor's architectural forms and design concepts which displays the harmony of nature, rich humanity sense and traditional culture based on field researches and data analysis. By taking"nutrition"from the"shape"and"spirit"of traditional folk houses, the paper aims to give some design ideas for the creation and development of modern dwelling architecture with Chinese folk style characteristics. The paper reflects on the current and future development of dwelling architecture design by exploring the deep culture of the Manor, which is quite helpful and will have an impact on exploring the inherent enlightenment and deep meaning.The paper has four chapters: Chapter 1 elaborates on the value of traditional folk houses and the problems that modern buildings are faced with, and thus points out the orientation and main contents of the paper; Chapter 2 introduces the Manor's historical background and current situation backed with plenty of first hand materials; Chapter 3 studies the building system, structure, decoration and space so as to understand and absorb its rich artistic charm; Chapter 4, also a conclusion and a recognition of the tradition, gives some suggestions and thoughts on the design and future development of modern dwelling architecture through an analysis of the essence of " shape " and " spirit ".Words:55000, Illustrated:79... |
