Based on the first-hand material, a comparative study is made between Zhuang language and Southwesten Mandarin spoken in Xia'ao, Du'an county in Guangxi Autonomous Region which intends to explore the interaction between them. The influence of Southwesten Mandarin upon Zhuang language in its phonology, vocabulary and grammar is so great that it can be seen from the following aspects: the phonetic system of Zhuang language has added some new elements; a certain number of borrowed words got into Zhuang language and the number is increasing. Some borrowed words coexist with the original words which makes some of the original words lose its strategic competence; the influence upon grammar is first the change of grammatical order, second the borrowing of verdictive verbs and form words. Linguistic influence is always mutual, but comparatively speaking, the influence of Zhuang language upon Chinese is smaller than the influence of Chinese upon Zhuang. The changes result from the influence of Zhuang language upon Southwesten Mandarin are as the follow: an adverb, such as"å…ˆ(first)", is in the same grammatical order as Zhuang language when it modifies a verb; indirect object is pre-transferred; and the verb"å¾—"is still widely used in Southwesten Mandarin. From the study we can see that the interaction between Zhuang language and Southwesten Mandarin in Xia'ao, Du'an county in Guangxi Autonomous Region is so strong that they contain the character of coexistence, challenge and overgeneralization, and also the change of grammatical function.
