Study On The Degree Adverbs In Tai Ping Jing

Tai Ping Jing is an important Taoism classic in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Its language is vivid, plain and common, and approaching to the spoken language. Many characteristic words pop up in this writings. The Eastern Han Dynasty, forming a connecting link between ancient Chinese and middle-age Chinese, is an important era in the history of language research. Therefore, from the angle of language research, Tai Ping Jing has great value for its language data. The degree adverb in Chinese language is a sub-class of adverb, which is frequently used, and has been attached great importance by the linguistic study field. This article chooses Tai Ping Jing as the language data, attempting to explore its value in the history of Chinese language and providing a few bases for further study on dictionary compilation through analyzing its degree adverb, especially the new one.This article is mainly divided into five major parts:PartⅠ: Introduction, simply introducing the value of linguistic research of Tai Ping Jing, and the semantic features, the grammatical features, the subdivision and the present situation of the degree adverbs in Chinese language, and putting forward the goal and the method of research and the origin of the language data needed by research.PartⅡ: The outlook of the degree adverbs in Tai Ping Jing, including tow parts. First, classifying and comparing the degree adverbs in Tai Ping Jing from three aspects——the semantic feature, the time and the word's structural style, and then revealing the feature of the degree adverbs in Tai Ping Jing. Second, analyzing the employment of the old degree adverbs of ancient Chinese in Tai Ping Jing from the semantic feature and the syntactic function.PartⅢ: The problem on the coordinate-compound adverbs in Tai Ping Jing. Not only explaining their employment, but also simply analyzing the reason why the phenomenon of the coordinate-compound adverbs decline.PartⅣ: The analysis of the new degree adverbs of the Eastern Han Dynasty in Tai Ping Jing. On the one hand, detecting the meanings and uses of the new degree adverbs of the Eastern Han Dynasty in Tai Ping Jing from a synchronic perspective, on the other hand, seeking their evolution process from a diachronic perspective, and then discovering that some of the new words and new meanings only appear in Tai Ping Jing, some are characteristic words of middle-age Chinese, some are used by later generations, but most of the new words and new meanings aren't collected by current dictionaries.PartⅤ: Conclusion, summarizing the development features of the degree adverbs in Tai Ping Jing, the basic factors of adverbs forming, and the place in the history of language and the research value of Tai Ping Jing.
