In this thesis, the author thinks that the CPC attaches great importance to revolutionary literature since coming into existence. Therefore, it is a meaningful topic to probe into the CPC's concern in literature and how to draw and fulfill various literature policies in its early stage. In theory, the topic contributes tremendously to the study of the CPC's history and in practice, it can be used for reference in such aspects as how to flourish the Socialism literature, how to develop China's culture by carrying forward China's superexcellent cultural traditions and how to build a Socialism Harmonious Society by utilizing literature which is a special form of ideology. This thesis is roughly divided into three chapters to probe into the CPC's thoughts and policies on literature within the ten years before the Anti-Japanese War. In the first chapter, the author discusses the relationship between the CPC with the May 4~th New Literature Movement. The author holds the opinion that the ideology guiding the May 4~th New Literature Movement is a multi-complementarities consisting of the cultural ideologies of the bourgeois, the petty bourgeois and the proletariats. And the proletariat ideology advocated by the CPC influences greatly on the New Literature Movement. Therefore, the opposition and the completion between the proletariat ideology and the bourgeois ideology lead to the varieties and the abundance of the New Literature Movement. We should be fully aware of the influence of the CPC on the New Literature Movement, and by this influence, the New Literature Movement heads for the direction of the proletariat revolutionary literature. However, we should not aggrandize the role of the influence mentioned above in the New Literature Movement. Since the collaboration between the CPC and the Kuomintang party in 1925, the CPC have taken a part in the domestic political movement as a collective political force, and the CPC have advocated a leading role of the proletariat ideology on the New Literature Movement. In 1928, the leading role of the proletariat ideology was confirmed. In the second chapter, the author summarizes the main ideas of the literature ideas held by the CPC members in its early stage. The author thinks that the CPC shows great sense of responsibility and enormous passion to the development of the New Literature Movement. And the members of CPC showed a similar tendency, that is, they sang highly of the achievements of the New Literature Movement on one hand and they showed dissatisfaction to the defects of the movement. And most of them held a critical view on the New Literature Movement. The early CPC members mainly held two views on the development of literature. One is to devote to the civilian society and the other is to cultivate revolutionary sentiment. And these opinions show the proposition of the ideology by the CPC on the development of the New Literature Movement and the desire to lead and guide the New Literature Movement. And these claims are part of the study of the CPC history. In the third chapter, the author collects, sums up and analyzes the literature policies and the literature task carried out in Shanghai and the country revolutionary base among the boarders of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi Provinces in the Second Civil Revolutionary War. From the analysis of the mentioned documents, one could easily see the influence of the revolutionary literature thoughts on the practice and also, one could see the development and maturation of the literature thoughts and the policies of the CPC. Therefore, the three parts mentioned above constitutes an outline of the CPC's thoughts and policies of literature before the Anti-Japanese War.From the discussion above, the author draws the conclusion that besides study on their political thoughts and organizing thoughts ,we should carry further study on their thoughts on literature of the pioneering members of the CPC. The country revolutionary base among the boarders of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi Provinces is a shining example of the success by setting up a separatist regime by the CPC. Besides division of lands in the political field, there was also construction in culture and education. As a part of the culture, literature played an important role in the constructions and struggle in those areas. Consequently, it is a new growth point for us to study the literature tasks and policies of the CPC in its early stage. It can be concluded that the CPC accumulated a large amount of experiences in literature management and literature policy-making during the Second Civil Revolutionary War, and those experiences were succeeded during the Anti-Japanese War in the revolutionary bases. And these experiences were theorized and systematized in the Speech on the Colloquia of the Literature in Yan'an by Mao Zedong. Therefore, the Speech on the Colloquia of the Literature in Yan'an is an embodiment ofMao Zedong thoughts on literature, also, it is a summarization of the experiences of the revolutionary literature in the country revolutionary base among the boarders of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi Provinces, and it is the collective wisdom of the pioneering members of the CPC in their revolutionary literature work.
