The Culture Conservatism Thought Of "Jiayin Weekly" (1925-1927)

"Jiayin Weekly" is a publication which was sponsored bythe modern famous political commentator and logician ZhangShizhao. It is one of the most conservative publications in1920s. At present, It is still lack of systematic and persuasivefruits about the conservative thought of the publication in thethe academic community. This paper attempts to carry on acomprehensive inquisition to it by arranging and analysisingthe material of "Jiayin Weekly" inhistory and sociologymethods, from the economical, political, the thought and cultureaspects, so that we can have comprehensive and clearunderstanding to the development of thought after the May 4th.At first, The article introduces the basic conditions of"Jiayin Weekly" and its social, cultural background. Then itgives its economic,political and cultural thought: againstindustrialization, and promote "founded on agriculture";opposite representative system and promote the guild system aswell as kodaozhi; opposes the New Culture Movement, and advocateclassical style of writing and traditional Confucianism orfeudal ethical codes. After that the article introduces the reflection and appraisal on the thought of "Jiayin Weekly" atthat time. Finally the article synthesizes the characteristicsof "Jiayin Weekly" and people's appraisal of the day, anddefine it as a conservative but not reactionary publication.
