This paper mainly discusses Wang Kaiyun whose studies of the Chinese classics especially on the Spring and the Autumn Annals played an important part in the development of academic thought during the late Qing Dynasty. As a famous scholar from Hunan province, he expatiated on a lot of classic books ---twelve kinds of them according to his son---Wang Daigong' record. He studied mainly on the Spring and Autumn Annals and Gong Yang, advocating having a good command of classics and putting it into practice'. He devoted all his life to Chinese Classics interpretation and education, Therefore, we should remember Wang Kaiyun as a Confucian classics scholar, especially his role in Gong-Yang School. The paper mainly discusses Wang Kaiyun's thought about Gong-Yang School. The paper is composed of three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction involves mainly literature reviews on Wang Kaiyun's study and the deficiency which is the basis of composing the paper. The body part introduces the origin of Wang's study on Gong Yang and analyzes fully and deeply Wang's Gong Yang thought and his characteristics from the perspective of the interpretation focusing on Wang's work--the Spring and Autumn Annals. Finally it talks about the influence of Wang' s thought.Wang Kaiyun was an active practitioner. He believed that the Chinese classics literature could be applied to society, that is to say, he advocated "having a good command of classics and putting it into practice, such as taking advantage of five classic books to get a good political situation and making use of the ideas of the Spring and Autumn Annals to get rid of confusion. He enlarged the ranges of the classic explanations, put forward his own ideas that were different from He Xiu's opinions in Jie Gu and questioned Gong Yang Zhuan in his book—the Spring and Autumn Gong Yang Zhuan. It is clear that Wang's interpretations tend to abandon Zhuan for turning to the original classic books. The paper tries to explain that Wang Kai-yun's Gong Yang Yili put emphasis on San Shi and Yi Xia and putting it into practice by analyzing Wang Kai-yun's Gong Yang scholar.
