Zhang Tianyi, who is called "the new person of left wing literaryarena", is the nucleus of the satiric humorous literature. He inheritsLuxun's caustics as well as Luxun's sharp tongue, no wonder he is called"the master of satiric fiction" by some critics. His satiric fictions satirizepolitics, morality, manners, culture and human nature, and the oppositionto violence, hypocrisy and vulgarity is always the satiric subject of hisfictions.This thesis contains four parts. The first part is an analysis of threekinds of characters which are important in Zhang Tianyi's fictions. Theyare the ignorant miserable citizens, the unsteady hollow intellectuals andthe pretense crafty land owner,. The second part is an analysis of thestructure of Zhang Tianyi's fictions. He is very good at connecting hisstory by using dramatic fragments in his writing, telling the story from achild's angle of view, and often in a cold tone. The third part is ananalysis of the satire in Zhang Tianyi's fictions from the following aspect:the cartoon typed exaggeration, contrast, irony, detailed descriptions. Thefourth part analyzes the features of Zhang Tianyi's fictions, including thelucid and lively language, the personalized language of his characters, theuse of colloquial language, new words, vulgar words, onomatopoeia,vivid metaphor etc. The conclusion is an analysis of the satiricsignificance of Zhang Tianyi's fictions and the reason of the developmentof his artistic features.Smiling is a sharp knife, which keeps lacerating all kinds officticious masks until the owners' truly human nature were uncovered. InZhang's writing, there are sardonic, relaxed, and bitter smiles. On thewhole, smile is the satiric feature of Zhang tianyi's fictions.
