In recent years, with the rapid development of electronic technology and digital revolution, the network multimedia that focus on sounds, pictures and animation are more and more popular with university English teaching. The traditional education can not meet the needs of informational, digital and network society so that an inevitable education reform involved in course content, teaching way, teaching method and teaching structure has taken place. The paper is written for finding out the problems existing in the mode of change from the traditional to the network multimedia. By using some language learning theories, it analyzes the causes of these problems and proposes related countermeasures.First, the paper introduces the process of English teaching from the traditional to the network multimedia mode. According to the characteristics of university English teaching in China, it analyzes the advantages of network multimedia teaching mode. When it comes to thinking constraint, bound concepts and material and technical limits, teachers and students will inevitably encounter many problems in the network multimedia used in the English teaching. For example, teachers don't get used to the new teaching philosophy and methods. It's hard for students to adapt themselves to the changes and accept them. Some teachers don't have sufficient capacity to use network multimedia as needed. Besides, unchanged text resources can not meet the different levels of students who study on their own. And regular and final assessment can not be effectively integrated. Furthermore, teaching management in schedule, academic record, credit and attendance still remains unchanged or has no corresponding reforming measures. Then, the article analyzes in details the reasons for the problems and considers insufficiency of new thoughts as the root source. In addition, students are greatly influenced by passive study way and faced with severe employment pressure. On the other hand, universities lack corresponding assessment system reform and enough multimedia resources. Finally, it puts forward such countermeasures as further improving teaching and learning philosophy, methods, contents, teacher quality, effective integration of regular and final assessment and text resources, which can not only guide the transfer of the college English mode, but also provide some actual help and ideal platform for the English teaching reform.
