Baling drama is a major local opera prevailing in 38 counties and cities where the three provinces of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi connect. It is the remains of the outstanding drama art and folk art for Yueyang city and around, which holds an important status in Hunan province even in the whole country.Based on the understanding of the integrity, abundance and particularity, this dissertation takes Baling drama music as a research object. The main contents are as follows:1) Baling drama can not form and develop without the local nature and humanities history environment. Taking this as the background and according to the local, religious belief and folk custom, we can make research on Baling drama music as comprehensive and thorough as possible from many angles, such as history, geography, musicology and so on, so as to know the historical vein of the formation and development.2) The voice for each role of Baling drama has each characteristic. Using these voices not only helps to display Character's disposition age characteristic, but also enriches the aria art of Baling drama.3) The language intonation of Baling drama is the primary factor to represent its local characteristic. When the four tones of classical Chinese of Baling drama melt into the melody of an aria, it will inevitably affect the melody.4) This paper has thoroughly analyzed some special sings from the writing or the music score, such as transforms in south and north, 18 boards, the volume bead curtains and so on, which are important contents for Baling drama music research.5) Baling drama music hasabsorbed some folk melody in the developing process, which can be known from the mixed aria and the folk song Baling drama sings as well as the interlude tune it uses.6) Using comparative method to analyze Baling drama and with it homology Hubei opera on the music in difference and blend, so as to open out the characteristic of Baling drama music clearly.7) We worry about the actuality of Baling drama. If Baling drama wants to obtain the development, it needs much more omnidirectional reformation from the music to the performance and the dance besides the national protection.
