Baling Opera is a local opera in Yueyang,Hunan Province,and it has unique singing style and local characteristics.This paper takes the traditional plays of Baling Opera as the main research object,through the way of field investigation,supplemented by digital audio-visual data of Baling Opera,at the same time,using the methods of literature review,chart,comparative analysis and other research methods to sort out the sound,rhyme and tone system of Baling opera.On this basis,it explains the phonetic performance of Baling Opera from the Five Tones and Rhyme Ruts,and further compares it with the phonetic system of Zhongyuan Rhyme and modern Yueyang dialect respectively,discusses the development and evolution of its phonetic system,and provides important evidence for the study of the phonetic history of opera and modern Chinese language.The study shows that there are 21 initials,40 finals and 4 tones in Baling Opera.Among them,the features of initials are as follows: no separation of flat and tilted tongue,no separation of sharp consonants,pure voiced consonants,non application of three consonants,zero expansion of initials,etc.;the features of finals are as follows: four calls are independent,no entering finals,curly tongue consonants [?r],etc.;the features of tone are as follows: equal separation of yin and Yang;turbid up changing;disappearance of entering voice,overall sending into Qusheng,etc.From the perspective of current research,baling Opera,with a history of more than 400 years,has gradually developed into an independent and distinctive phonetic system due to the comprehensive influence of multiple factors during its long development and evolution.This paper includes six chapters:The first chapter is the introduction.In the introduction,the author firstly introduces the general situation of Baling Opera from the perspective of historical origin;in the next,reviews the relevant studies of Baling Opera;and then,explains the purpose,significance,plan and methods of this paper;finally,focuses on the corpus sources,namely,the author 's voice field survey data,Baling Opera paper material and digital audio and video data.The second chapter is the phonetic system of Baling Opera.On the basis of fieldwork,the initials,finals and tonal system of Baling opera are sorted out and summarized,and the homonyms table is sorted out according to the characteristics of combination.The third chapter is the Five Tones and Rhymes of Baling Opera.From the perspective of pentatonic and rhyme,this paper explains and analyzes the classification of rhymes of Baling Opera,and probes into its phonetic performance.It is proved that the pentatonic and rhyme of Baling opera is of great significance for the actors to pronounce the words accurately.At the same time,it also helps us to better understand the phonological system of Baling opera.The fourth chapter is a case study of Baling Opera and its phonetic features.Throughsorting out and recording the play of the Baling Opera —Xue Gang Revolted the Government of Tang Dynasty,this paper further summarizes the phonetic features embodied in the play,which are mainly divided into two parts: no distinction of tones of Jian and Tuan and Ru Tone' Relaxation.The fifth chapter is the comparison between the phonetic system of Baling Opera and that of Zhongyuan Rhyme.This paper compares the phonology of Baling opera with that ofZhongyuan Rhyme written by Zhou Deqing in Yuan Dynasty from the perspective of initial,finals and tone,analyzes the relation between them to reveals the diachronicevolution law of Baling Opera.In addition,some important phonetic issues are discussed.For example,the devocalization voiced initial,the production of tongue surface sound,the expansion of zero initial,the production of the speech,the disappearance of silence rhyme,and the return of entering voice.The sixth chapter is the comparison between the phonetic system of Baling Opera and Yueyang dialect.This paper compares the phonetic system of Baling opera and modern Yueyang dialect from the three aspects of initial,final and tone,summarizes the similarities and differences between them,and then clarifies the phonetic characteristics of Baling Opera.Among them,the same points are: no distinction of flat and tilted tongue,no distinction of tones of Jian and Tuan,four call independence,and even Yin and Yang;the different points are: whether there is voiced consonant purification,whether there is the phenomenon of different reading of text and white,whether there is entering tone,etc.
