The Chiang-hsi and Kuang-tung border area was one of most frequent turmoilareas in Chinese history where turmoil emerged one after another incessantly from theSung dynasty to the Qing dynasty. Frequent upheavals, weak defense of the officialmilitary in local society as well as the difficulty to manage the border area formattedthe bright region disposition of the Chiang-hsi Kuang-tung border area. The stategradually tried to control the region society and then initiate the frequent upheavalswhich was named by the official "salt-bandits","qian-bandits" and "dong-bandits" inthe region society between the Chiang-hsi and Kuang-tung border, following theprocess of the state's politic and economic center gradually moving to the SouthernChina. The local tyrant which was originally active on the border area betweenChiang-hsi and Kuang-tung gradually became the most influential social stratum withthe aid of the current situation in the falls of the Southern Sung dynasty. Thisevolutionary process has had its bright region characteristic, and was closely linkedwith the region society's development. This transformation had the profound influenceon the pattern of region society's development in the Chiang-hsi and Kuang-tungborder area at the falls of the Sung dynasty. This dissertation attempts to discuss thecomplex relationship among the local tyrant, the upheaval and dynasty vicissitudeunder the frame of region society history research, obtain the historical vein which theregion society's development.
