Since a long time ago, the research on the Context Theory of the London School bythe domestic linguistic world is mostly general introduction and commentary. They seldomhave full understanding of the formation, development and influence of the ContextTheory of the London School. Revolving "Why" and "What", by using the method ofcomparative analysis, this article elaborates the academic tradition and discipline traditionof the Context Theory of the London School, and reviews the developing course of theContext Theory of the London School. By comparatively studying the achievements inthree stages, this article objectively analyzes the contribution and limitation of the ContextTheory of the London School. This article tries to give prominence to the historicalsignificance and the practical significance of the Context Theory of the London School inthe developing history of linguistics in a certain degree.
