During Chinese Anti-Japanese War, the higher education in China sufferedserious destruction. With the purpose of inheriting and spreading traditional culture,saving the nation, and revitalizing of the nation, and cultivating more talents, manyof the colleges and universities in China moved to the inland China despite that theattacks from Japanese army were going on. The State Southeast United Universitywas founded in December 1942 after the outbreak of the Pacific Ocean War, by thegovernment, in order to take in the students of the universities in Shanghai, bothprivate and public ones. This paper reveals the difficulties of the foundation of anew university at that time, and the national spirit of the patriotic teachers andstudents determined to keep the university running, by the comprehensivedescription of the founding process and activties of the Southeast UnitedUniversity. Southeast United University accommodated more than 400 students insuccession during the war time, and made donation to many of the teachers andstudents. It had made great contributions to the higher education of China. Inaddition, the great contributions made by the famous educator, Mr. He Bingsong,to the founding of the university are also worth memorizing.
