A Study On Poems Of Cao Zhi

Cao Zhi, one of the important poets in the Six Dynasties ,played a vital role in the changing time of the poetry revolution.The influence of the Six Dynasties poetry to the later generations mainly has two points:one is that it extremely paid great attention to the expressing of individual emotion,the other is that it formed a beautiful and elegant style of poetry.Zhong Rong has given the poetry of Cao the lofty appraisal——"the strength of its sPirit is magnificent,the style of its language iselegant",and this just certified that Cao achieved the perfect union in this two aspects,that is to say, the poems of Cao are both substantial in content,strong in emotion and elegant in style,beautiful in language.Based on the past achivements,this article gave a carefully research on Cao's poems and tried hard to pick up a pearl in boundless seashore of the classcial poerty.The first part:Cao's life ,thoughts and literature works.This part discussed the relations between Cao's disposition,his talent,experience,ambition and his poetic works.Cao was gifted,intelligent and erudite,and his poetry were refined:the language was graceful,with ease and smooth. Cao's early life was in a favorable circumstance,however, he experienced bitterniss in his later life.That's why his earlier poems were more fervent and vehement while later ones were mixed with his resentment and sadness.Cao,who was ambitious,bold and uncostrained,always wanted to establish great enterprises,so his poems were filled with strong emotion and generous and herioc aspiration.The second part:The ideological content of Cao's poetry.This part seperately dicussed Cao's heroic poems,sentimental poems,lyric poems and dicussing poems.His heroic poems distinctively manifestied his personal ideal and all of these poems was a song of bold youth.His lyric poems and sentimental poems reflected therustrations in his later life.Nevertheless,duantless and fortitude were not veiled by the frustrations,just like the turbulent current of his emotions were flowing under the tranguil water.The third part:Cao's artistic skills in writing.This part carefully studied the artistic achievement of Cao's poems based on their structure,color, concept and their expression means. Diversity found fully expression in Cao's poems. Some were emotion center-oriented, some were led by a main logical line. We could also see the parellal structured poems and one-lined structured poems in his works. All of these different structures had served properly and marvelously in his poems.Cao's poems were also rich in color. Dominated by red, white and green, his poems created a brilliant and beautiful wonderland of art. Most of his poems expressed his feeling by describing the picturesque scence or eulogize the beautiful scence while expressing his feeling. The description of landscape increased obviously in his poems. This kind of change found fully expression in the development of the classical poetry. It is clear that his poems inherited and developed the traditional skills of description, meataphor and simile.The fourth part: The comparison between Cao Zhi and Cao Cao's poetry. This chapter compares cao cao's poetry to cao zhi's from theme, style, image, structure, technique, poem body and etc. From the theme, Cao Cao selects material mostly from politics, the military and the significant social problems. His poetry has the bright realism tendency; while Cao Zhi selects material mostly from the daily life and emphasizes the expression of the individual innermost emotion. From the style, Cao Cao's poetry is plain, desolate, fragrant and vigorous; Cao Zhi's poetry is mainly gorgeously and heroic. From the image, Cao Cao's poetry is mainly clumsy and stresses strength; Cao Zhi's poetry is lightness and emphasizes the vigor. From the organization, Cao Cao's poetry is relatively loose, and has strong unevenness; Cao Zhi's poetry is relatively compact and has strong continuity. From the sleight, Cao Cao's poetry is good at narration and mostly uses line drawing; Cao Zhi's poetry is good at expressing emotion and uses labor traces. From the poem body, they both make an important contribution to the innovation of Yuefu poem. Inaddition, Cao Cao is good at the poem which contains four characters in a line; Cao Zhi is good at he poem which contains five characters in a line, and has made the beneficial attemption in the poem body exploration.
