Studies On The Book Design Of Republic Of China

The Book Design of Republic of China (for short as BDRC) is the beginning of modern book design, which reveals the change of book design from traditional form to modern one. Currently, researches on BDRC are mainly concentrated on the design history, collection, or the publication history. Unfortunately, the artistic scene and in-depth cultural connotation may be shown insufficiency by these ways. This article attempts to study the art of BDRC from the points of view on visual communication art. By this means, the BDRC visual pattern will be analyzed, the cultural connotation will be discussed, and the success experience of BDRC will all be summarized.The period of Republic of China is a reforming time in Chinese history. During that time, the political transformation was unceasing, society was very queasy, the whole country was in a confusion state by civil war and the invasion from western country. In the usage of visual elements, graph performance methods are very agility, compatible and gathering, characters are changeable and vivid, the usages of color are little but colors are rich. Through the form character of BDRC, we can see the animadversion and the inheritance on traditional culture, the collision and blend on ideal of West and China, along with the vivid time spirit.Looking over the development course and the artistic achievement of BDRC, we can see that, there are lots of successful experiences, such as basing on native, the union of the West and China, the dual manifesting of cultural value and the e commercial value, setting up the publication brand, the broad successful experience, and so on, which is very worth for studying and being used for reference.
