In this paper, book design of the Republic of China was discussed asthe main subject, highlighting the important role of writters and artists in thebook design process. Because of the special political and culturalbackground, the ideology and culture of the Republic of China exhibited aprosperous tendency once again. As a medium for the dissemination ofinformation and knowledge, books naturally became the most powerfulpropaganda tool of this period.Because their positive participation and promotion, a large number ofbooks and journals had been published, along with a number of outstandinggraphic design works were also be available. In this process, such as Lu Xun,Wen Yiduo, Feng Zikai, Chan Zhifo, Taoyuan Qing, Qian Juntao etc. joinedthe team of book design. Their participation made the book design style ofRepublic of China show more diversity and personalization features.In this paper, through the method of philology and system theory,sorting out a large number of historical studies, to show their contributionand impact in the book design field. Based on this study, to find out thecontemporary within their design practice and design theory. This paperclarified the context of the development of book design and aimed topropose reference and the direction for the contemporary book design, inorder to have their own national book design style.
