With the development of network, Internet addiction is common in the university campus, which brings somewhat negative effects to the study, lives, and work for university students. A lot of foreign studies on internet addiction have been done, involving each aspect of the mental phenomenon, while it is still at the very beginning in China now. Looking back on the present studies on internet addiction, many concern on theory exploration, few on empirical research; among the empirical studies, many works are about depiction of the situation of internet addiction, few about the key factors shaping it; on the exploration of the factors influencing the shaping of internet addition, the current researches focus on affection, personality, social interaction. Some studies have been conducted about the locus of control on network and time management disposition as a factor of personality, which partly results in internet addiction, respectively, but few have done with consideration of the two factors simultaneously. The limitation provides the impetus for this study to investigate the combinatory effect of the two factors above mentioned on internet addiction.632 university students from 4 universities of Shanghai were inquired, through means of surveys of self-scaled Inventory of the Internet Locus of Control for University Students, revised Scale of Internet Addiction (Chinese version) by CHEN Su-hui, and Scale of Time Management Disposition by HUANG Xi-ting.The aim of this study was to investigate the scaling of Inventory of The Internet Locus of Control for University Students, the situation of internet addiction, the locus of control on network and time management disposition for university students, the relationship among them, and a model which could explain the combinatory effects on the internet addiction. The results showed that:There were significant differences between sexes, among majors and grades about internet addiction of university students. The phenomena is more significant for male students than for female ones, more for students majored in economy, science, business administration than for those majored in human science, more for senior graders than other ones.As to the locus of control on network for university students, significant differences were also found between sexes, among majors and grades. Male students tended to be more external locus of control than female counterparts, students majored in economy, science, and business administration to be more external locus of control than those majored in human science, senior graders to be more external locus of control than other ones.No significant differences could be found between sexes in triple dimensions of time management disposition. Time management disposition for human science majored students was significantly better than other majored ones. In time value no significant differences have been found among grades, while in time management and time efficacy the fresh and the senior were significant better than the sophomore and the junior. In the locus of control on network, there were significant differences between internet addicts and the normal groups. The former tended to be external locus of control, and that the later to be internal locus of control.Significant differences in time management disposition lay between the group of internet addicts and the normal group. The scores in time management were higher for the normal group than for internet addicts. There lay correlation among Internet addiction, internet addiction, locus of control on network, and time management disposition. Locus of control on network correlated positively to internet addiction, time management disposition correlated negatively to time management disposition and to locus of control on network respectively.Locus of control on network and time management disposition had combinatory effects upon internet addiction and could predict it. Among them, locus of control on network influenced internet addiction directly, while time efficacy did both directly and indirectly. The general locus of control, time value and time management affected internet addiction indirectly by the means of intervening variables.
