Milan Kundera is one of the most famous writers in the 20th century. Since 1980s, manyChinese readers are strongly impressed with his unique style, book craft and profoundthinking. Several critics such as Li Fengliang, Gao Xing and Liu Xiaofeng, studied onMilan Kundera and made great success. However, there is lack of comprehensive study onthe works of Milan Kundera. I am trying to build a system which includes most of the keywords in the author's books. In his books, Milan Kundera described the modernity experience of man in modern age, which was called 'the possibility of being'. My thesis is trying to analyze it by closereading. In my opinion, 'the possibility of being' should be distributed to three aspects:egos, egos and the others, egos and the world.Time and space are changed in modern age, the world is going much faster than ever, theweight of egos becomes lighter and lighter, immortality turns to oblivion. Then, findingegos is more difficult than before. People have to join in the crowd to get a shelter. So I am trying to discuss the relations between egos and the others in the next chapter. Aperson who join in the crowd, seek for his individuality as well as the shelter, but he canonly find himself in others' eyes. Therefore, everyone needs to be a terpsichorean inmodern age. The theory of terpsichorean is imagologie. They hold the world with lyricismand kitsch.I will clarify the salvation of Milan Kundera in the third chapter: laugh, sex, repetition andregression. The author told us to face the absurd world with laugh, to find the body ofoneself by sex, to obtain more 'possibility of being' by repetition, to pacify the suffering byregression. To get a happy life, man should ease up the conflict between human being andthe world. With the clue of modernity, we can get a general view of Milan Kundera's works.
