The Image Of Qingdao

People always live in a concrete surroundings, and have a appreciative, observation and cognitive progress about his environment. The image of the city is a direct or indirect experimental space, which is the surroundings, have en effect of the citizens. It is an subjective space about surrounding and it's a recall of the image of the city through the brain. The Lynch(1960) in his book《The Image of the City》asserts that though every citizen have a different perception ,any one city have a common image. It is consists of many images which is intersect. Compared with other forms of the city space, through the image of the city to analyze the city's space form, it's best trait is attach important to perception about the city's individual or masses, and perception is the foundation of the policy's making. The study object of this article is Qingdao , and though it's history is short, only about one hundred years, but it experiences the occupation of the German from 1897 to 1914, and Japanese'occupation from 1914 to 1922, and the Japanese's capture once again in 1938, and finally be taken back by the Kuomintang. When the German makes plan for the city in 1990, they make today's the Baoding road, Dexian road, the Guanhai mountain, the Xinhao mountain, the Tsingtao mountain, and the Taiping mountain as the district of the German from the railway station to the east, they build some houses in Tapaotao for the Chinese, and also built something in Xiaobaodao(in today's Yidu road),the Baoding road, north of the small harbor and so on. Someone who are original people are force to move to Tai-tung-tschen and Tai-xi-tschen. The Japanese first occupy Tsingtao form Japanese business quarter like the Jiaozhou road, the Licun road, the Shichang road. the Guantao road and the Liaocheng road from 1914 to 1922. The Tsingtao'city space appear clear differentiation. Hereafter, until the liberation of the China, though Qingdao's construction are still in progress, the pattern is not change.Through the document and the datum, such as some historical data, pictures and old postcard in archives, someone Europeans and Japanese who live in Qingdao leave travel notes ,and some man of letters have reminiscences about Qingdao, we found that the image of the German about Qingdao mainly limit in the district of the European what they live in, like north of the Qingdao bay along the coast., but the Japanese have the Shichang road and Liaocheng road besides the district of the European, the Chinese man of letters almost alike the European.Is it Qingdao? Why the Chinese quarter, for example the worker district and the poor-man district, disappear from this men's eyes out of the void? we could see the material in the article-various kinds of text, all is someone who have the right of say and write leave. those who not have the right only be fall into oblivion in history, except"write"by other people.
