| The social function of a prison lies in punishing and transforming criminals. During confinement criminals must be transformed into the law-abiding citizens as well as the useful persons to the society. The criminals imprisoned in jails exist as a person who has his own personality; therefore, the essence of criminal transformation is his personality transformation. Music has its unique function in the criminal personality transformation. However, at present using the music enlightened function in the criminal transformation is still not common, moreover the systematic research of how music functions in prisoners' enlightenment and the production of conducting humanistic management in jails is also not easy to find. This article tries to elaborate how to use the moral education function and the esthetic education function as well as the entertainment function of music in criminal personality transformation. At the same time the author conducts a survey on how criminals need music, the enlightened function of music and the music attainment of jailers. Through the search and investigation, the author hopes to find out under the legal, scientific and socialized management, what restricts all these music enlightened functions to be used in criminal personality transformation, and ultimately find out a point at which a more positive and humanistic management can be introduced in criminal transformation.
