People-oriented Thought Of Chen Baozhen And His Political Practices

Chen Baozhen, a provincial magnate in Xinjiang in Late Qing Dynasty, is a patriot and man of insight. People-oriented thought in modern history is the key of his philosophical thinking. This thesis conducts a systematic research into the causes, contents and political practices of his people-oriented though; thus probes into the essence, the merits and the defects of his philosophical thinking. This thesis consists of three parts.Part One is about the causes of his people-oriented thought. It is further composed of three sections. Section one analyses the influence of his family tradition; Section two discusses about the influence of Chinese traditional culture; Section three probes into the stimulating effect of the situation of the common people at that that time. Part Two is about the contents of his people-oriented thought. This part focuses on answering two questions. The first one is, as a folk-concerned patriot, what does"people"in his philosophical thinking"people-oriented thought"actually mean. The second one is, as a modern official, what contents his philosophical thinking"people-oriented thought"actually contains.Part Three studies the practices of his people-oriented thought. This part is carried out from six aspects, namely they are, first, to be deeply concerned about the people's livelihood and rectify official practices; second, to maintain social public security and make people live and work in peace and contentment; third, to show solicitude for the people and promote the beneficial for the people; forth; to work selflessly in the interest of the public and be incorruptible as an official; fifth, to set up schools and open the press to enlighten the people; sixth, to found bureaus and establish associations to distribute power to the people.The people-oriented thought of Chen Baozhen and the practices of his thought make it possible for researchers to deeply contemplate the history and its occurrences. Chen Baozhen's philosophical thinking and his political practices were not only constructive at his time, but also are significant and illuminating to people today.
