It is generally believed that the teaching and learning of a second language starts with pronunciation. The teaching and learning of pronunciation in TCSL is of irreplaceable importance for the primary phase, which settles the pavement for cultivating communicative proficiency and mastery of the language. In the Chinese pronunciation teaching and learning practice, the phenomenon of "foreign accents" bothers both Chinese teachers and foreign students greatly. The main reasons responsible for the "foreign accents" are Chinese tones and intonations. It seems that if the problems of tones and intonations were solved, then it would be much easier to teach the Chinese pronunciation and the foreign students can speak more standard and idiomatically. However, the results of Chinese pronunciation teaching are far from being satisfactory. Therefore, it becomes urgent to search for new methods from other perspectives.Researches from many deciplines have been finding out that the ties between music and language are intertwined. Many successful experiments have also shown that it is quite possible and crucial to apply music to language teaching and learning. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to further investigate the connections between Chinese music and Chinese pronunciation, thus finding out some new methods for the Chinese pronunciation instruction. The error analysis for the foreign students was conducted from the perspective of "Interlanguage" and "Input Hypothesis Model". It raises the "Singing and Reading Aloud Method of Chinese" for pronunciation teaching and also puts forward the textbook design based on the three sides of teachers, students and textbooks. One case study was also conducted under the textbook design and results of the study indicated that the student did achieve greater success when the "Singing and Reading Aloud Method of Chinese" was implemented. This thesis is divided into three parts:Part one is the preface. It mainly concerns about the reasons for choosing this topic, the research area and the literature resources, theories and methods adopted.Part two is the main body, including three chapters: Chapter one is the foundation for the whole research. Three questions were discussed: literature overview; the relationship between music and language; the functions of music and its teaching history. In chapter two, the first topic being the errors of foreign students' pronunciation; followed that are the possible reasons for those errors; the last step is for solutions. Chapter Three also discussed three topics. The first one being discussed is the textbook design, and then one case study was conducted, eventually came the requirements for teachers and students.Part three is the conclusion for the whole thesis and some new topics offered for further discussion.
