Among Nabokov's novels, the most "notorious" Lolita has provoked the widest range of readership. This novel is of an obscure theme and is shining with the full play of defamiliarization of literature. For years, Chinese readers have come across several of its translated versions. Whether the renderings can take on defamiliarization as the original is of vital significance. Based on the fundamental theory in translation and defamiliarization study, this paper attempts to illustrate defamiliarization from an aesthetic angle and its manifestations in literary works. Accordingly, further study is carried out regarding the applicability in transplanting the aesthetic tension of defamiliarization from the following four aspects: multilingual text, rhetoric device, culture intention and wording.
