Cultural Context And Translator's Choic Of Translation Strategies-A Comparative Study On Two Chinese Versions Of Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austin

Literary translation plays a great role in the communication, and it improves the understanding and cultural exchange among different people and nations. Some outstanding literary works have been translated in Chinese again and again. Different versions of the same literary work display the translators'strategies in translation Domestication and foreignization are two primary strategies adopted in translation. It is admitted that literary works are not translated in a vacuum but in certain social and cultural conditions. During the translation activities, the overall cultural conditions have been changing. This article attempts to provide some explanations for the different translation strategies from the cultural perspective. And this article seeks the answer from the analysis of two Chinese versions of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, which were produced in the1950's and 1990's respectively. The purpose is to see how cultural context works on the translator's choice of translation strategies. It can be concluded that translation is a continuous process that always has its preconditions of cultural background, and that different strategies and techniques are governed by the variations of social and cultural conditions.
