"Fighting against Japanese Aggression", "Fighting against the diehards" and "Constructing the Army" were the three main tasks of the PLA during the War of Chinese Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It was those three main tasks that the PLA political work (mainly ideological educational work) focused at. Therefore, the three tasks ("Fighting against Japanese Aggression", "Fighting against The diehards" and "Constructing the Army") can be regarded as the three themes of the PLA political work during the War of Chinese Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The main political work focusing at "Fighting against Japanese Aggression" was firstly, to boost soldiers' morale and to inspire the fighting spirit of the PLA; secondly, to call more people to fight against Japanese aggression and to develop and extend the anti-Japanese national united front; thirdly, to disintegrate enemies and their puppet forces and to fight against the trend to surrender and betray our country. Its ultimate aim was to consolidate and reinforce the combat effectiveness of the PLA. The main political work focusing at "Fighting against The diehards" was firstly, to publicize the significant meaning of fighting against Japanese aggression, to oppose the civil war, to expose the reactionary nature and despicable behaviors of the Kuomintang (KMT) diehards, and to build up a fine image of our army; secondly, to publicize the significant role of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in our country's future and destiny. Its final aim was to repulse the third anti-communist upsurge launched by the KMT diehards. The main political work focusing at "Constructing the Army" was: to uphold the absolute leadership of CPC to the PLA, to reflect the normalization construction of the PLA, to facilitate the movement aimed at promoting production, to improve the military and political level of officers and soldiers, to launch the educational movement of supporting government and cherishing people, and to harmonize the relationship between the army and the government and between the army and the people. The above three political themes need the cooperation of literary and artistic work. As a result, the PLA music during the War of Chinese Resistance Against Japanese Aggression exactly coordinated with the above three themes of political work, therefore had a significant position in the PLA political work, and had distinctive features that were rooted in a specific historical period and cultural context.
