This document investigates the expressive meaning of articulation in Haydn's piano sonatas. Along with the progress of historical changing style and by using the method of analysis, comparison and citation, the document not only expatiates the historical background and the meaning of different types of articulation marks and indications in Haydn's piano sonatas ,but also chooses piano sonata in C Sharpe minor Hob.XVI/36's first movement as a performance analytic case, to make a further detailed discussion about how to realize the composer's intention, bringing out the music character through appropriate using of articulation in combination with other music elements.
