Sonata always plays a very important role in piano performance teaching, impenetrating the whole learning stages from the basic to the senior. However Haydn's sonatas are accidentally neglected and misunderstood. This paper analyzes the musical character of late Haydn's sonata from many different perspective in the growth of sonata and its form, the development of the piano, the varieties of music styles and composition condition that Haydn had experienced, combining with the influence of The Enlightenment and Sturm und Drang happened in the culture field that time. And it have a totally view of how to express the meanings of the works appeared more properly and serial issues such as melody, rhythm, ornaments and harmony in Haydn's later works. In order to catch the main points of skilful and emotional performance through practice way, this paper keeps eyes on the features of his late sonata style, ascending to the contemporary circumstance and background upon the theory research, instead of in an isolated way that just focuses on his works simply. Glamorous performance can't live without re-creation, the musical value of the work need to be demonstrated through appropriate acting. In this paper, a proper method is supposed to be worked out to express the composer's original intention during the performance and the teaching of piano sonata, particularly to Haydn's ignored works; integrative understanding of Haydn and sonata is supposed to be achieved in sonata teaching and performance from the research on extension and connotation of these works.
