Since the long-term and in-depth cultural communication, Chinese characters transmitted Korea, Japan and Vietnam etc. with Chinese culture, have formed a relatively stable the cycle of Chinese characters and culture. These countries had written their history books and records in Chinese characters on the basis of absorption of Chinese culture and imitation of Chinese history books leaving ancient foreign Chinese books and records such as History of the Three Kingdoms and Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms in Korea and the Events of Ancient Time and Japan Secretary in Japan. It is significant for us to study the history of transmission of Chinese characters and culture in that Chinese history books, language, and characters had exerted great impacts on the idea and compiling books in their literatures. Whereas the diction in the literature had been attempted to use in Chinese, they reflected the characteristics of their own state and nation to some extent. This was due partly to the fact that the recorded contents in the literature were foreign history and culture in different language systems. The thesis studied History of the Three Kingdoms (compiled in 1145) in order to explore the characteristics of literature and language and characters concerning the cultural cycle of Chinese characters. Jin Fushi, a famous politician, literary man and poet, compiled History of the Three Kingdoms during Gaoli period. As the first noting-biography's and dynastic history book in Korea, it was the earliest and the most detailed existing ancient literature in terms of recording history of the three kingdoms. The author referred to a lot of ancient Chinese books and records in compiling the book and some existing literature of past in Korea Peninsular. While the structure and diction in the book was fluent Chinese, place names and person names revealed the characteristics of language and culture in Three Kingdoms period in Korea. Therefore, it can serve as valuable information for studying the language in this period. However, in the absence of the research on ancient Chinese books Three Kingdoms period in Korea from Chinese perspective, it is significant to study the situation of the cultural cycle of Chinese characters. The thesis consists of three parts. The thesis analyses literature and language and characters in History of the Three Kingdom, illustrates the characteristics of referred Chinese books and records and pronunciation of Three Kingdoms in Chinese as pronunciation characters. It proposes existing Korean language and letters were behind Chinese by comparing the characteristics of Chinese varieties between History of the Three Kingdom and the earliest Japanese literature such as the Events of Ancient Time and Japan Secretary which have been regarded as the cycle of Chinese characters and culture. Based on the findings, it arrives at a conclusion that Korean has developed it own language in relying on Chinese and Chinese culture.
