With an increasing number of people learning Chinese across the world, practicality and interesting quality are becoming major concerns in current curriculumdesign of Chinese language and characters teaching. Currently, the most commonteaching methods of Chinese characters only involve discrete interpretation of theChinese characters without any systems that interrelate with characters. Extensive andprofound as Chinese culture is, there is a lack of systematic research on theappropriate selection of teaching materials and the applying of culture interpretationin Chinese teaching. This paper, taking Chinese characters with the radical of金as anexample, explains the practice of culture interpretation and summarizes the teachingpatterns of culture interpretation as an attempt to explore the teaching methods ofteaching Chinese as a second language. This paper consists of four parts. The introduction reviews the previous researchand gives an overview of the topic. The second part involves the application of theculture interpretation for Chinese characters with the radical of金. Taking Chinesecharacters with the radical of金as an example, the article demonstrates the cultureinterpretation methods and the potential obstacles that could be encountered. The thirdpart illustrates the application of culture interpretation in teaching Chinese as a secondlanguage, the drawbacks of this method, and possible solutions. The last partconcludes the new prospect this article opens and the limitation of the research.
