This article is based on full and accurate historical materials or data, combining the practical development of the contemporary popular music in China, to investigate the modern song produced in the, thirties and forties of last century in Shanghai, and by stating and summarizing the prevalent history of the modern song, as well as its important status in the process of the development of contemporary popular music in China and its prevalence in the musical social life, to analyze the reason that the modern song can prevalent for a long time and in a wide range in more than have a century.This article chooses three representative songs as its object of study: tianyagenv, herijunzailai, and yelaixiang. These three songs represent the different styles of China popular music in the pioneering stage separately. Tianyagenv by He Luting represents the popular songs with folk song's style that produced with folk minor inheriting from LiJinhui's time; yelaixiang by LiJinguang the popular songs with fashionable rhythm which take in occidental musical element; while herijunzailai by liuxuean is the landmark popular song carrying on the past heritage and open up the future that transmit the first creative style to the second one. These three songs still active on the stage of contemporary Chinese popular music, therefore, investigating its popular history and reason is the effective way to show the popular history and reason of the modern song.
