Fine Brushwork Painting in Heavy Color has a long history and fine traditions in China. It is one type of Chinese paintings which is decorative and has characteristics of decent lines, thick & flowery colors, preciseness and extraction. During the long process of development, Fine Brushwork Painting in Heavy Color has retained unique artistic language and style and it is the earliest style and form of Chinese painting.Modern Chinese Ink Painting uses and absorbs other art categories for references with an open mind. The tendency of Modern Ink Painting is to emphasize language characteristics of colors, and dig expression power of painting materials. Rich traditions & inside information of ancient paintings is combined with foreign culture, thus provides a wide evolution space for color expression & materials innovation and enables an expressive & visual impact for Modern Ink Paintings. Modern Ink Painting also becomes more mature with respects to attempt of techniques, innovation of painting materials & skills. On the foundation of traditional skills, more modern technique of expression is created, including accumulating water, accumulating color, rushing water(water- break color, color-break color). Regarding innovation of painting materials, categories of mineral dyes increase and a high temperature crystal dye with fake stone color appears. Mineral and high temperature crystal colors are integrated together, thus presents an infinite charm of Modern Ink Painting with regard to application of colors.The paper intends to present an overview of application of Mineral Dye in Chinese Ink Painting. The first chapter mainly describes the origin of Mineral Dyes and Chinese Ink Paintings. Secondly, the author summarizes colorizing methods & techniques of Mineral Dyes applied in Modern Ink Painting. The next section records the author' s experimental course of developing a piece of Chinese Ink Painting work using Mineral Dyes under the supervisor' s guidance. The third part is followed by a conclusion. These are my conclusions from the practice, which are far from clarity and perfection. However, during the exploration, I indeed have improved my understanding of application of Mineral Dye and I hope my initial research would make some contribution to the development of Chinese modern Fine Brushwork Painting.
