The Beautifulness That Can Be Appreciated Is Not An Unvarying Beautifulness

Bel canto originated in Italy in the late sixteenth century. In the following four centuries, bel canto has made great achievements and gets widely accepted by the world. It has turned into a vital section of world culture; meanwhile, it also becomes the apple of sound music. Bel canto was imported to China last century. In the following decades, both the theoretical research and performing practice of bel canto made a quick development. But on the other side of the coin, the present situation is well worth thinking about: the masses in china do not accept bel canto, namely, the music it too high-brow to find accompanies at present; at the same time, some domestic organizations of music performance are reluctant to hire bel canto singers, so that quite a lot excellent specialized performers lie idle. It even becomes a law that once a singer rises to fame he/she will leave his motherland and go on his career abroad. So the first thing we should do is to make people realize the value and beautifulness of bel canto. At the moment, the main stream of domestic theoretical research on bel canto is concentrated on the integration between bel canto and Chinese traditional music. Only a few of researchers get involved in the topic of bel canto popularization, but their research field is limited to the connection between Chinese pronunciation and bel canto singing or to the aesthetic standard of different cultures. Academic papers on bel canto popularization in China are seldom to find. Based on the phenomenon, the present paper is stimulated to research the causes of the peripherization from both micro and macro levels, as well as different perspectives in order to fill the vacuum. Through the diachronic analysis of the item list of CCTV spring festival evening party and a questionnaire performed on both the undergraduates and postgraduates of four universities in Chongqing and Chengdu respectively, the present thesis tries to show the current hard situation of bel canto's peripherization in China. Then the features of bel canto are analyzed, through which the beautifulness of bel canto is showed off from different aspects. Based on the contradiction of the former two sections, further research is performed. Through analyzing the difference among aesthetic character, music appreciation standard, aesthetic standard both at home and abroad and the influence of pop music on bel canto, the thesis tries to uncover the causes of peripherization of bel canto in China. Together with the analysis of the causes, the thesis also studies the future trend of bel canto development in China and makes some tentative suggestions on the adjustment of bel canto so as to cater to the public. The beautifulness of bel canto can be well appreciated, only that the bel canto keeps up with times and transform itself appropriately, which is termed as"the beautifulness that can be appreciated is not an unvarying beautifulness".
