Romance of Three Kingdoms of Yuan Block-printed Edition is a history speaking edition which is popular in the period of Yuan dynasty. The huge number of variant Chinese characters in it is a mirror of the use of Chinese characters in Yuan Dynasty.In order to deeply get to know and understand the Chinese character used in that period, we take variant Chinese characters as the research target and make an analysis on their structure and origin ,try to find the regulation and feature of the variant Chinese characters in this book.This thesis is composed of four sections:The first section is literature review which gives a brief account to Romance of Three Kingdoms of Yuan block-printed Edition and the definition as well as achievement of the variant Chinese character in the present academic circle.With abundant specific variant Chinese characters as examples, the second section makes an exploration of variant Chinese characters In Romance of Three Kingdoms of Yuan Block-printed Edition, and classifies some representative variant Chinese characters according to their formation causes and structural changes.Based on the analysis on specific examples, the third section conclude regulation and feature of the variant Chinese characters in this bookThe last section is a conclusion that sums up the gain and loss of this thesis.
