Study On Characters Of Hieroglyphic Expression And Visual Communication In Chinese Characters

Chinese character is a medium of culture in the Chinese history. As a tool of succeeding civilization, expression of thoughts, and communication, Chinese character, with hieroglyphic characteristics, is one of the most important characters in the world in the form of pictorial combination of variant shapes. In Chinese characters a variety of meaning-related shapes were created based on combination of pictorial structures and its expressive characteristics.The information of hieroglyph is carried by characters and figures, the two types of symbols endowed hieroglyphic expression with dualism in which visual communication is achieved by meanings of characters and figures. Meanwhile, they are complemented by each other so as to enhance the advantages of expression and comprehension in Chinese characters.It was concluded that hieroglyphic expression exists in Chinese characters starting at analysis of visual communication of characters and figures. Secondly, characteristics of hieroglyphic expression of characters and figures were studied from perspective of visual communication and conclusion on dualism of uniqueness of hieroglyphic expression in Chinese characters was achieved. The law and principle of hieroglyphic expression in the design of visual communication was concluded from the perspective of analysis of meanings and shapes of characters. Finally, value of study on hieroglyphic expression of Chinese characters was discussed from the perspective of functional application and taste of art.
