Personal Values And Value Appeal Of The Nation-State

With the coming of the advent of social market economy since 1990s, China is facing new challenges and opportunities in politics, economy, culture and other fields. The traditional values and ideology are facing all kinds of test in the torrent of Marketability. Overnight ,it seems that everything in every corner has become commodities. Literature, which has been high living in the ivory tower, is coming down from the throne standing for sacred soul, and being included in the interests of secular disputes. The operation way for literature creation, the design of the theme, and even the choice of subject matter are subject to the constraints of the economic benefits. The values of the literature tend to get into a situation of multi-dimensional development.Since the reform of the economic system, all areas of society have undergone tremendous changes. The areas of economy and values occupy the most spectacular changes. the great changes in the economic field have widespread influence on people's value concept, which initiate fierce conflict between old and new value concepts. And an indomitable change trend is emerging. In such a literary historical context, this essay starts with the texts of merchant historical novels written since from 1990s , and discusses the complex relationship between individual values and nation-state value appeal. This essay reveals the inspiration of aesthetic tragedy and moral strength of the metaphor function provided by this kind of literature.This paper is divided into four parts. Introduction casts light on the cause of the emergence and prosperity for merchant historical novels, and it is discussed in the aspects of historical heritage, the atmosphere of the times and literary context .This part also outlines the major research on the merchant historical novels in recent years .The first chapter mainly analyses the goals chased by the individual businessmen, from the inner feelings, and individual interests of the merchant. Chapter II reveals businessmen's value desire from the nation-state, mainly from the national sentiments and national awareness aspects.Chapter III described the conflicts between individual businessmen and the nation-state to explain the power of strategy and the significance of the metaphor.
