Two Formulations On Nation-state Of CNP And CPC During The Anti-japanese War

State is a cornerstone that not only to maintain territorial integrity and ensure the existence of nation, but also the important imagine source and final power to push the civilization forward. At that time, The Anti-Japanese War push China to the cliff again, a scientific and rational nation and state formulation decided the fate of China and survival of Chinese Nation.This study is based on two books: In 1940, Mao Zedong wrote a book named ‘New Democracy’, in 1943, Chiang Kai-shek wrote a book named ‘China’s Destiny’. Through a comparative study and a perspective of ethnology theory to research CPC and CNP’s formulation about the relationship between nation and state,such as the foundation of their theories and form of state structure. There are ordinal and connected six chapters in this paper: above all, part one is an introduction, on the one hand taking the two Parties difference and struggle during Anti-Japanese War as the time background, on the other hand taking the spread of Nationalism and Marxism as the knowledge background, by reading the relevant books and papers, find out the paradigm of Mao and Chiang’s formulation and its content.Second chapter introduce the time background that write the two books. Taking the Second World War and the country’s severe national crisis into account, especially the extreme nationalism lead to the World War II, than the injured State have to safeguard national independence. China as one of the injured state, United States and Soviet give money and material for CPC or CNP. As we all known, the two country represent two ideologies, so they are intervention on China’s nation and state construction. Under the flood and impact of various thoughts in modern times, Mao and Chiang take the mission to unify the country with partisan struggle and cooperation, and finally different concepts result in the different nation-state formulations.The third part analyzes CPC chairman Mao Zedong’s ethnic group and state formulation. The theory foundation is class-nationalism and CCCP’s federal paradigm, trying to building new democratic politics, new democratic economy, new democratic culture, finally complete a Republic of New Democratic. Surrounding ethnic group plan, CPC recognize many ethnic groups in China by Joseph Stalin’s definition of ethnic group, then give a new meaning to the ‘Chinese nation’, make it more suits to Marxism’s minority theory. Finally, it is analyzed the formulation of the ‘new democratic’ is to build a multi ethnic groups and unitary state.Forth part continuously analyzes the CNP chairman Chiang Kai-shek made the nation-state plan when he faces the task of building national unity that the history gives China. Chiang’s thought was bases on Sun Yat-sen nationalism idea and traditional Chinese culture. Surrounding the national construction, Chiang wants to learn the European and American style to construct a Republic of China with Democratic Republic. Surrounding the ethnic, Chiang makes nationalism and the traditional ‘clan’ concept together, using blood as a link to enhance the cohesion of Chinese nation. Finally, in ‘China’s destiny’, Chiang wants to build China into only nation unitary country.Cause Mao and Chiang have different program and understanding of the same historic task that how to construct and develop the nation and stats, so the fifth part compare the two formulation’s logical rational. Firstly discovered the two formulations are the same product under the same time, then the planners concerned about the future fate of China and adhered to unify China. The different theory and paradigm basis result in opposite formulations. Though Marxism and nationalism have the different concerns, but Mao and Chiang develop their formulation with China conditions. Finally though they choose the unitary, but the cause is not the same. In dealing with ethnic issues, the two parties are not the same, the CPC is a deductive thinking but the CNP is the inductive thinking.The relationship between the nation and state construction is not only a political problem but also an important ethic problem, and a good dealing will promote the development of all aspects of the state. Generally speaking, Mao and Chiang are on behalf of their Party to proposed nation and state formulation, enriched the theory of country during modern China, but we can’t ignored the huge difference in their formulations.
