Objective To realize the correlation among mental health, personality feature and response manner in the police Armed border guards in the plateau. Methods Psychological test was carried out on 317 soldiers stationed along frontiers and in the plateau by SCL-90, EPQ ( Eysenck personality questionnaire) and facilitated coping style questionnaire. Results (1) All the factors'scores of SCL-90 were significantly higher in the soldiers stationed along frontiers and in the plateau than in the soldier norm. (2)Their coping style was closely correlated with mental health status. The active coping style was correlated with some factors of SCL-90, and the passive coping style was positively correlated with all the factors of SCL-90 ( P < 0. 01) . (3) The coping style that thesoldiers took when they encountered stress was closely correlated with personality feature. The passive coping style had a significant or very significant positive correlation with both P (psychoticism) and N ( neuroticism) scales in the personality questionnaire, while the active coping style had a negative correlation with P and a positive correlation with E ( extroversion / introversion) scale. Conclusion The mental health status is worse in the soldiers stationed in the plateau than in the soldier norm as a whole. Personality feature and coping style possess strong influences on it.
