Many factors that constraint the word order of modern Chinese include the internal and external language system. This thesis is investigated on all kinds of internal factors within language system and their relations. Internal factors include syntax, semantic and pragmatic factors. The author explores the interrelationship among all kinds of constraint factors in the same level as well as different levels. They play the different roles of intensity on word order, partly in contradictory and partly in consistency. At the same time, the author observes the syntactic arrangement develops in the course of the interaction.Word order is the most basic part of generating sentences, and is the most important means of grammar. According to the given syntactic rules, under the direction of pragmatic expressions, I need to express the given semantic and pragmatic information through encoding the semantic components. A sentence is made up of a large number of syntactic parts based on the regular encoding rules Chinese word order is inevitably constrained within the syntactic factors In modern Chinese, word order as a means of grammar has its function of expressing the semantic relationship among grammar constituents. The syntactic arrangement is necessarily influenced by semantic factors. The thesis summarizes the semantic factors that influence the linear order of constituents from three aspects of semantic features, semantic referent and semantic role. The most basic function of language is semantic information transmission. The higher level is to convey semantic information that can achieve the better pragmatic effect in different contexts. Therefore, word order is constrained by pragmatic factors, which consist of theme and rheme, focus, given and new information, referring expression and referent and so on.Word order is a multi-functional complex. It not only serves as a mean to express semantic relationship and pragmatic identity, but also syntactic relationship. However, there is diverse dependence on the word order among semantic relationship, pragmatic identity and syntactic relationship. Therefore, when I decide how to arrange the word order, these factors play different roles as well. When the conflict is broken out among those semantic, syntactic and pragmatic factors, Chinese always gives a priority to pragmatic and syntactic requests. Semantic factor performs a prerequisite part, and syntactic factor plays a forcible role, whereas pragmatic factor conducts a decisive part.
