Scale For Face And The Study Of Relationship Between Face And Self Consistency And Congruence

Huxianjin developed the concept of face in 1940's. So far, the researches on face had been about 60 years . Recently the domestic researchers and the practitioners newly began to make concern about the phenomenon again. Although, the researches on face had gone through relatively long period of time, it had some problems, such as lack of process studies and impressive measurement scale,very narrow conceptualization of face and ambiguity of relationship between face and some important self concept variables. Aiming at these problems, this study carried on the research into face in the cultural background of China, after enriching the concept of face in theory.The process of this study was divided into 3 stages: Firstly, measurement scale for face was compiled. Based on relevant literatures, the researcher collected 50 items measuring face. After discussion and evaluation of items, 30 items were accepted; Secondly, measure in advance was implemented. Through advance measure, the study collected 392 valid data from 4 different university. By using the exploratory factor analysis, the study deleted 4 items with different meanings. The second exploratory factor analysis indicated that the measurement scale for face had three dimensions, namely self-esteem,forces,benthamism,hypostatic face and false face; Thirdly, formal measure was implemented. This time, the scales for face(26 items),self consistency and congruence scale(35 items),overt narcissism scale (20 items) and covert narcissism(15 items) were added to the formal questionnaire all together. And 388 valid data were collected. The confirmatory factor analysis and model comparison indicated that the five-component structure model was optimal. This result confirmed the theoretical construction of five dimensions of face. Then the study deeply analyzed the relationship between five dimensions of face and self concordant consistent scale,self-esteem and narcissistic personality, after the reliability analysis of measurement scales.
