This thesis paper attempts to research a poet in Chinese Qing dynasty, Huang Zhongze, and his poems. Huang Zhongze is a talented poet during Qian Long regime and his poems are characterized by its esthetic and internal qualities. This paper employs a combined way of description and discussion, of sense and sensibility, examines the poet and his poems in the background of the whole poetry field during Qian Long regime in order to discover his poetry's literary position in the poetry history of Qing Dynasty.The Introduction is a literature review of Huang Zhongze's poems. It proposes that there are still some unanswered questions concerning Huang Zhongze's characters, the esthetic quality and the cultural origination of his poems. Chapter one, from the aspect of his traveling experience, analyzes the internal and external factors which lead the poet to be interested in scenery poems. Chapter two analyzes the internal and external motivations to create poems. Chapter three, from the aspect of his death in the prime day, exposes the influences on his poems from the life experiences of poverty, fail in empirical examination and depression. Chapter four analyzes the poet's characters which are reflected from the traveling poems, discovers the motivation to create traveling poems and the significance of the traveling poems, and reveals the true characters of the poet. Chapter five, focusing on the scenery poems, reveals the poet's intention to be a governor or to be a hermit and concludes that his scenery poems are a creative inheritance to and development of the traditional genre. Chapter six, focusing on the homesick poems, interprets the sincere feelings and animated talents embodied in the homesick poems. All in all, from learning from the tradition to being creative, Huang Zhongze finally becomes a classical poet with his own styles in poetry history of Qing dynasty.
