Beauty is a prolonged topic. Language is a tool, for communication and information exchange, and also for expressing and exchanging beauty. However, beauty is lost in inter-communication due to various reasons. Weijin is a vital part in Chinese history, and Weijin style, with Tao Yuanming's poetry as representative, is the forever concern of scholars. To explore the loss of beauty in C-E translation of Tao Yuanming's poems is the aim of the thesis.The theoretical foundations of the thesis are comparative aesthetics and Dynamic Equivalence. The second chapter is literature review. After expounding Chinese and Western aesthetics and carrying on a comparison between the two aesthetics, the author discusses the inner relationship between aesthetics and translation. The third chapter is mainly an introduction of aesthetic characteristics of Weijin period in which Tao Yuanming lived, Tao Yuanming's life, his poems and the aesthetic thoughts in his poems. In the fourth chapter, the appreciation of Chinese poems and their English versions, a comparison between ST and TT are presented, on the basis of which the loss of beauty and the reasons for it are discussed. Then, three reasons for the loss of beauty are illustrated: cultural backgrounds, language and translators' aesthetic perspectives. In the last chapter, a conclusion is drawn, the significance and limitations of the thesis is discussed, and a suggestion of translating Tao Yuanming's poems from the aesthetic perspective is made.
