A Study On Risk Behaviors And Their Relative Factors In The College Students

ObjectiveTo investigate the risk behaviors in college students.To study the characteristics and affective factors of the risk behaviors among college students.Methods:717 students from Hunan University of Science and Engineering were administed by College Students Risk Behavior Questionnaire(CSRBQ),Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)and Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran(EMBU).All of data was analysed with SPSS 13.0.Results(1)The possibilities suffered from risk behaviors in the students: drunk experience(68.9%)was the most popular,the next was riding bicycles with others sitting behind(51.7%),the order of other risk behaviours presented was:sitting quietly over 8 hours per day,losing weight,never participate in strong activities,approving of premarital sexual activity,nibbling between meals frequently,swimming in site without protection,smoking,exceeding the expected time surfing on the internet,more than three hours per day on line,serious suicide attempting, sexual intercourse,saw ecstasy,heroin and other drugs in the non-public places.The lest likely risk behaviour was taking drug(0.7%).(2)The characteristics of dangerous behavior in different gender and grades:Male students were more severe in injury,internet,smoking and drinking alcohol,sexual and drug behavior than in female.Meanwhile female students presented more risk behavior in diet and exercises.There was less network behavior in students of grade 1 and 3 than grade 4. Smoking and drinking alcohol behavior was significantly less than in the students of grade 2,3,4.Sexual intercourse of grade 1 was significantly less than grade 4.Diet behavior in students of grade 1 was significantly more than grade 2,3.There was a significantly higher ratio for engaging in hurt behaviours in the physical specialized students than arts,science students.There was a significantly higher ratio in the network behaviour Science students than in the art students.(3)the correlation between risk behaviors:There was a significant positive correlation in hurt,internet,smoking and drinking,sexual,drug. There was a significant positive correlation between diet and internet, drug.There was a significant negative correlation between sport and hurt, tobacco,alcoholdrinking,sexual intercourse respectively.(4)The correlation between risk behavior and personality:There was a significant positive correlation between hurt,tobacco,alcoholic,sexual activity,drug and scores in the subscales of P,E,N respectively.There was a significant negative correlation between hurt,smoking,alcohol drinking,sexual activity,drug and the scores in the subscale L respectively.There were a significantly positive correlation with P and N, and a significant negative correlation with L respectively.There was a significant positive correlation beween diet behavior and scores in subscales P,N.There was a significant negative correlation between diet and the scores in subscals E,L.(5)The relationship between risk behavior and parental behavior styles:There was a significant positive correlation between hurt and parental punishment,over-interference,refuse,deny respectively.There was a significant positive correlation between internet and parental over-interference,father's rejection and refusal.Smoking and drinking behavior had a significant positive correlation with parental severe punishment,over-interference,rejection and refusal,over-protect,had a negative correlation with parental warmth.There was a significant positive correlation between sexual activity and father's severe punishment,over-interference,refuse and deny,mother's rejection and refusal.There was a significant positive correlation between drug and father's severe punishment,over-interference,mother's.Diet had a significant positive correlation with mother's severe punishment,had a significantly negative correlation with mother's warmth.Exercise had a significant positive correlation with father's warmth.There was a significantly negative correlation between exercise and mother's warmth, rejection and refusal.(6)The predictors for injury behaviors were as follows:gender,the scores in the subscales P,N,E,single child,father's over-interference, and monthly living expenses.The predicting variables of internet behaviors were as follows:grade,monthly living expenses,the scores in subscale N,L,gender and family income.The predictors for smoking and alcohol drinking behaviors were as follows:gender,the scores in the subsclaes N,E,P,father's over-interference,monthly living expenses, mother's warmth,and father's education level.The predictors of sexual activities were as follows:gender,the scores in the subscales P,N,E, grade and family income.The predicting variables of drug-trying behavior were as follows:father's over-interference,scores in the subscales P and E.The predicting variables of diet were as follows: gender,scores in the subscales N,L,mother's severe punishment and monthly living expenses.The predicting variables of exercises were as follows:gender,sores in the subscale E,grade,specialty and father's warmth.Conclusions(1)Risk behaviors are common among college students.Gender, grade,specialty present their characteristics in risk behaviors. (2)There is significant correlation between risk behaviors and their types of personality in the college students.(3)The parents' behaviour styles for treating their children may affect the emergence of college students' risk behaviors.(4)The risk behaviors of college students will be predicted by personality,parental styles and some social demography factors.
