George Frideric Handel was bom on February 23rd, 1685 in Halley, a town in Germany. Joining in Britain nationality early in 1727, Handel passed away at home in April 14th, 1759. He dedicated all his life to exploring and creating vocality and sublimed this art form to its best. Messiah counts as Handel's greatest masterpiece, in which he stirs up people's spirit as some sublime power in virtue of a Bible story of Jesus saving human. In addition, this work is produced out of Handel's gratitude in that it freed him out of dilemma. Every year Handel commanded by himself the performance of Messiah and all the income would be contributed to hospitals and orphanages for the purpose of treating deformed people as well as those in prison. This endows a special significance on this work.This thesis, through analyzing the three arias in Messiah, purports to probe into the scientificity of "bel canto", extemporization of Handel's masterpiece, and the practical significance of "bel canto". The thesis consists of three parts: the first part presents an introduction of Handel's life and masterpieces and then briefly explains the creating background of his oratorio and Messiah; the second part focuses on the analysis of Handel's three arias, summarizing the techniques applied in Handel's masterpieces and their characteristics and primarily explaining their essence; the core of this paper resides on the third part, where the scientificity of "bel canto" is further discussed on basis of the writer's own experience and the extemporization of Handel's masterpiece and the practical significance of "bel canto" is dissertated in a deep sense.
