Ancient Indian art is extremely unique. Its charactes was under the influence of many external factors. By exploring the external factors which has influenced the features of Indian art, the author is trying to study the art form of Indian style which has been under the influences of the geography, climate and customs of India. Due to the unique religious belief in India, the majority of Indian art are submissive to the need of religious belief. Therefore, the ancient Indian arts focus on religious architecture and Buddhist statues and drawing resources were comparatively limited. Based on this, the present paper analyzes the relation between the formation of ancient Indian's unique art style and external influencing factors by elaborating the geographic, climatic conditions and customs of Indian sub-continent and analyzing the extant classical archaic. This paper tries to explore a new perspective to art studies by attributing the formation of art style into such external factors as geographic environment and humanistic factors. Thus by examing the external factors, we can acquire the substantive characteristics of specific art form. The present paper is only a case study to the ancient Indian arts. The region of India with its diversified landscape and swelteringly moist climate is the pivot of Asian-European continental communication. Religion in this region is very popular with the vivacious people who are good at abstract thinking; these factors therefore cast their influences on the field of art. Indian art style stands between the Asian and European art and forms its own decorative,symbolic and proceduralized ethnographical style.
