On Reform Of College English Teaching And Learning At Higher Education Institutes Of TCM

Globalization has brought about an upsurge in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and a trend of modernization and internationalization of higher-education of TCM, this has made it a prime duty for the college English teaching and learning at higher education institutes of TCM to foster TCM talents with excellent comprehensive English proficiency that can better serve the development of TCM causes and fulfill people's needs for medical treatment. In this context, the author launches study on the reform over college English teaching and learning at higher education institutes of TCM and presents some feasible suggestions accordingly.In addition to the foreword, postscript and acknowledgement, this paper consists of primarily three parts.Part one: a general account is given about the opportunities and challenges confronting college English teaching and learning in higher education institutes of TCM in present situation and points out accordingly that we should seize the opportunities while facing up to the many challenges, cultivate modern and international talents in TCM.Part two: in this part, the paper sums up the achievement in college English education at higher education institutes obtained since China's implementation of Reform and Opening-up Policy, then focuses on the deficiency in college English teaching and learning, finally believes it's an urgent to conduct certain reform on College English teaching and learning at higher education institutes of TCM.Part three: in line with the Requirement of College English Curriculum and on a basis of actual situation of higher education institutes of TCM and referring to both foreign and domestic research results and theories, this paper puts forward five systematic reform measures: transforming educational notions, set down individualized outline of teaching and learning, adopting a teaching model of classification of students according to different levels, make full use of multi-media and internet technology, expanding investment.
