The Study Of The Symmetrical Construction Of "X'S X" In Modern Chinese

Symmetrical construction is composed by two phrases or two sentences which are similar in character number,identical in structure,similar or contrary or interrelated in meaning.This article studies the symmetrical construction of "X'S X" in Modern Chinese,the typical form of this constrction is "X₁'S X₁,X₂'S X₂","X" mostly stands for adjectives,verbs or verbal phrases.This article studies the strcture and meaning and application of symmetry construction of "X'S X",analyses the order and number of symmetrical term from different aspects.In the section of structural character,we analyses the styles of "X",the adding and omitting of "X",the number of symmetrical term,the dependence of symmetrical term, the order of symmetrical term.In the section of semantic character,we analyses the semantic relations between "X₁" and "X₂" and the whole meaning of the construction. The semantic relations between "X₁" and "X₂" includes senonymy,antonymy and near-synonymy;the whole meaning of the construction can be deviation,variety,suitable and contrast.We analyses the pragmatic value of the typical form and the adding and omitting form respectively,the pragmatic value of the typical form includes expressing emotional inclination,increasing atmospheres,composing a little exaggeration and possessing formal beauty,the pragmatic value of the adding and omitting form includes strengthening emphatic meaning,expressing implicit meaning and peculiar feelings.The order of symmetrical term is influenced by people's cognition,according to this,we analyses the order of opened and closed symmetrical construction of "X'S X".The number of symmetrical term is influenced by multi-factors,it relates not only the fact of things but also people's cognition,at the same time,it relates toeither the purpose of expression or the pragmatic factors and influenced by style.
