The Development Of The Self-rating Anger Scale

Using the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory(STAXI)developed by Spielberger as a source of reference,a new self-rating anger scale which can be applicable to Chinese is developed.By the translation and revision of the Spielberger's State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory,and the design of new items,an initial scale composed of 56 items is developed,and used to survey a sample of 450 college students. The exploratory factor analysis shows that the state angry subscale can be divided into 3 factors,they are anger emotion,wanting to express anger,exclusion,and the item's factor loadings of the 3 factors are respectively 0.61～0.86,0.57～0.82,0.79～0.89,and 65.71%of total variance can be explained,that the trait angry subscale can be divided into 3 factors,they are anger-temperament-patient,anger reaction, anger-temperament-ration,and the item's factor loadings of the 3 factors are respectively 0.60～0.90,0.59～0.71,0.67～0.82,and 54.99%of total variance can be explained,that the anger expression subscale can be divided into 5 factors and the item's factor loadings of the 5 factors are respectively 0.51～0.75,0.74～0.89,0.55～0.90, 0.66～0.82,0.57～0.72,and 61.45%of total variance can be explained..The result of confirmatory factor analysis indicates that the fit indices,consisting of x~2/df,GFI,CFI, NFI,IFI,TLI,RMSEA,of the 3 scales are respectly 2.27～3.15,0.84～0.88,0.86～0.89, 0.80～0.85,0.86～0.89,0.82～0.86,0.08～0.11.The revised scale composes of 48 items. The state anger subseale has 13 items,the trait anger subseale has 13 items,the anger expression subscale has 22 items.The subscales' Cronbach a is respectively0.88,0.79, 0.79,the split-half reliability 0.82,0.75,0.87 respectively,and the test-retest reliability after 2 weeks 0.73,0.71,0.67 respectively.The newly-developed state anger scale for Chinese is an effective instrument in the research on angry emotion.
