Social investigation emerged at the late of the Qing Dynasty, The content of the investigation has a wide coverage and deals with every aspect of social life. The method of investigation was adopted in many groves of academe. Therefore, a comprehensive knowledge of the modem social investigation has a double historical significance in the learning of academic innovation and social reform.This thesis takes the appearance, development, and the widespread utilization of Social investigation at Qing Dynasty as a clue, this paper is composed of three chapters, The first chapter focuses on the rise and the spread of social surveys, Chapter two describes the general status and basic features of social investigation at the end of the Qing Dynasty mainly by quoting some statistics. Chapter three describes the using and many issues of the social investigation in Constitutional reform.The time which Chinese began to use social investigation is 1896, social investigation has gradually become a trend in 1903. In 1907, social investigation was extensively used to Constitutional reform. The content of the investigation has a wide coverage and deals with every aspect of social life. There are various kinds of ways and methods of investigation. Soon after the western modern method of investigation came into existence, it was introduced into Qing Dynasty. The method of investigation was adopted in many groves of academe, such as history, sociology, anthropology, folklore, economics, statistics, science of religion, pedagogy, etc. Because of the association of the social investigation with these disciplines in many aspects, so to speak, social investigation has played an important role in terms of the rise and development of these modern disciplines and also in their processes of indigenization in Qing Dynasty.There are four fundamental characteristics in social investigation of the Qing Dynasty. It was effected profoundly by abroad. Second, and investigation is related closely to economic rights, and was used extensively in politics, economics, culture of the Qing Dynasty, and the level is not high. This is one hand, on the other hand, the most Fundamental characteristic is that social investigation must own scientific theory. If we research it from the Purpose, Range etc, we would get a conclusion that social investigation of the Qing Dynasty is very scientific.
