With the globalization and the international exchanges further realized, intercultural communication is becoming more and more popular. People from different cultures may come across cultural conflict because of different life conditions, customs, values, thinking modes, religions, etc. So foreign language learners should study the cultural knowledge when they learn language knowledge.Upon the exploration of the relationship between language and culture, this thesis discusses the importance of cross-culture teaching. Moreover, based on the training objective for college students of primary English education, it probes into some approaches to intercultural teaching appropriate for them.There is a strong relationship between language and culture. Language is a kind of cultural phenomenon. It is the carrier of culture and reflects culture. There is no culture without language, and no language without culture. The goal of foreign language teaching is to cultivate learners'language ability, communicative ability and cultural ability. Language teaching should combine with cross-culture teaching in order to cultivate the English learners'intercultural awareness.An important way to reduce the cultural difference is to introduce the target cultural knowledge to students and cultivate their cultural awareness in the process of language teaching. Cultivating cultural awareness can stimulate language study. The ultimate aim of language teaching is to realize intercultural communication. Cultivating cultural awareness has become an important aspect of foreign language teaching, and is an important teaching content to reach the teaching aim.The teaching aim of college students of primary education of five-year system is to cultivate primary school teachers who attain college level. The training objectives for college students of primary English education are: to help the students improve themselves in their thoughts, knowledge, ability, intelligence, habits and quality; to lay stress on cultivating language application ability, language teaching ability, instruction ability in extracurricular activity and sustainable development ability.College students of primary English education have dual status: English learners and future English teachers of primary school. As learners and future educators, they should have intercultural ability.Cross-culture teaching should follow some principles: the practical principle, the gradation principle, the comparison principle, the combination principle and the tolerant principle. The contents of cross-culture teaching include: verbal communication, non-verbal communication, customs & etiquettes, interpersonal relationship and some ideas & values. Some approaches of cross-culture teaching can be: carrying out activities in and outside classroom based on textbooks; comparing the differences between two cultures; using authentic materials of all sorts, teaching the students how to carry on cross-culture teaching in primary school.
